Family Fun

Pumpkins (Year Three)

This year marked year three of pumpkin carving/ decorating with family (and a few close friends), and it was probably my favorite yet. Beckham is now at the age where he’s understanding holidays and really enjoying all the fun that goes with them. I never realized how much fun holidays would be with kids! My mom was the queen of decorating for special occasions when we were growing up, so I always have a lot of welcomed nostalgia during this time of year as I do the same. I hope that’s one of the things Beckham grows to look forward to as the seasons change.

Pre-Beckham, I wasn’t really a fan of decorating for Halloween. I LOVE Fall, and is probably definitely my favorite season because I am shamelessly obsessed with pumpkins. I’ve loved watching Beckham’s excitement as he sees anything Halloween-related in stores, so this year I’ve started (very) small in incorporating little bats, skeletons, and spiders into our normal Fall decor. I’ll be hitting Hobby Lobby pretty hard on November 1st scouring post-holiday sales to stock up on Halloween decor for next year. Don’t judge.

This china cabinet matches absolutely nothing in our house, but is my favorite piece of furniture. My mom cherished this china cabinet as it was her grandmother’s, who she was very close to. It brings back some pretty fond memories, and helps me feel her presence everyday.

The setup for the actual party was pretty simple, and has definitely evolved year over year.

We had so much food: french onion beef sliders, pasta salad, egg rolls, a veggie tray, raspberry chipotle cream cheese dip, pumpkin mousse dip with ginger snaps and apples, charcuterie boards, and autumn harvest punch.  I may have developed a new obsession with charcuterie boards; they were the biggest hit and so much fun to make!

After eating and chatting with each other for a bit, we announced that it was pumpkin time! We gave the kids little goodie bags complete with all the Halloween things, and dove right in. The big table was for the carvers and the little table for painters (next year I will be smarter about the painting situation and not have the kid’s painting table over my favorite rug). It’s becoming a common theme that I do not take as many pictures as I used to (this is my fair warning, family and friends: the annoying group photo is coming back very soon)!

Thankful for this man. That is all.

And to close with the sweetest host gift from my sister-in-law’s mom, Cindy, who has quickly become one of my favorite people. She came bearing this basket of all-things-pumpkin, and it was the CUTEST. Her thoughtfulness is truly one-of-a-kind!

Thank you to all who came (and those who were there in spirit)! It was THE BEST time!

*And to those of you who made it to the end and want to read about my blog’s name change, head over to Meet The Le Fam to see what “Daisy and Jade” means to me!*
